Nel 1919 claude monet era un uomo anziano che aveva già dipinto per quasi 70 anni . Monet's la serie water lilies è nata durante il periodo in cui aveva deciso di dipingere solo ninfee e scene d'acqua . Nel 1919 mentre si trovava vicino a uno stagno nel sud della francia, decise di dipingere un nuovo dipinto per la sua serie di ninfee . Gli piaceva dipingere quando il sole o qualsiasi tipo di luce si rifletteva sull'acqua perché avrebbe creato una sorta di scena brillante e scintillante . Questo dipinto raffigura una scena intorno al tramonto in cui la luce che si riflette sull'acqua ha un colore rosso violaceo mentre le ninfee gli danno un bel accento . è un dipinto ad olio su tela che monet amava moltissimo e che dà al dipinto molti dettagli .
